A local organization is hoping to bring families together, all as a part of the national adoption month.
Our Lauren Kendrick spoke to a woman who was adopted and is now trying to help other children and joins us now.
Almost 6,400 children in Texas foster care are waiting for the right family to call their own.
In Webb county, there are 98 available.
We hear from one woman about the importance of adoption.
The department of family protective services is hoping to get the word out for children like this who are looking for their forever home, and for one recruiter it has a special place in her heart.
"On a personal level, I was adopted."
Cornelia was adopted when she was younger which gave her the interest to help children in a similar situation as she was in. She says there's a great need and so many children that want a family to belong to.
"Right now not only in a local level, but also at the state level we find ourselves with so many children in care to be adopted."
For those interested in adopting, Cornelia says it will change not only the child's world, but also yours.
"It gives you the opportunity to open your heart and to open your home for a child who's in need."
"Adoption is very near and dear to my heart."
