Downtown business owners have also recently brought up problems at international bridge one which they say is also impacting the number of shoppers headed downtown.
Long lines at the pedestrian bridge have many people choosing not to come into Laredo to shop. The issue was recently brought to the attention of Congressman Henry Cuellar who says he's even heard from people who say they were met with rude customs agents and the wait was unbearable.
Cuellar says he's now working on ways of solving the problem:
“We've got to make sure that we move traffic a little faster. that CBP when there's a bad apple they go after the bad apple but 99 percent of the people crossing are good people and we gotta treat those people with dignity.”
The congressman says 83 million dollars had been allocated to make improvements at bridge one but Washington has recently cut back on that amount.
So it may take some time before any major changes are made to the bridge. He does say there should be some improvements soon and will keep us updated on the situation.
