Good evening everyone, an item up for discussion at tomorrows city council meeting is a proposal to make one of the parks downtown safer. James Johnson joins us with more on the story, James.
Mayor Salinas recently walked along Jarvis Plaza and people who live in the area as well as businesses are asking for help.
Jarvis Plaza, it's a park with a lot of activity. Between the El Metro bus station, the shopping, and residence that live in the area hundreds of people go through this park each day. Recently Mayor Raul Salinas and the chief of police did a walk through of the area after receiving complaints of suspicious activity happening at the park.

The city has already increased bike patrols in order to make police more visible and have plans to install cameras at the park so police can better monitor what's going on. There are two elderly housing facilities right across from the park and many of them have voiced their concerns.
[cg:newsuper\raul salinas\city of laredo mayor] 04:45:39:02 "this is an initiative we should priorities/ 04:45:02:25 "the elderly don't feel safe coming to this park and this is unacceptable.
17-year-old Joanna Gomez lives in the area and is happy to hear the city is making efforts to address the problems at the park.
[cg:newsuper\joanna gomez\likes idea to make park safe] 05:06:35:06 "it use to be safe but now there’s a lot of bad people hanging out there. 05:07:52:22 "it's good they're thinking about families.
[cg:newsuper\james johnson\kgns reporter] 05:09:15:24 "another item the mayor wants to focus on is making this post office a police sub station.
[cg:newsuper\raul salinas\city of laredo mayor] 04:51:58:15 "were going to take over this federal court house and the possibility of having a police sub station would be ideal. 04:48:58:11 "when I our citizens don't feel safe we need to react and we will.
I was down there for a few hours today and after talking to people and just spending time down there…I can honestly say this is something the city needs to look into. I talked to two high school students, both who walk through this area each day and say they're happy to hear the city is stepping in. For KGNS, I'm James Johnson.
