The mother of a seven-month of old is behind bars for allegedly injuring the child.
Police say the child’s aunt called officers asking for help; and 38-year-old Mercedes Gutierrez was arrested Monday afternoon when police arrived at a house in the 1200 block of Reynolds.
The victim who called police said Gutierrez had assaulted both her as well as a seven-month-old child.
Police say the baby's head was red, possibly from being hit.
The infant was taken to Laredo Medical Center.
The baby's condition is unknown.
Gutierrez faces one count of assault and injury to a child.
