A 24-year-old Laredo mother is in jail for allegedly abandoning her child.
Police said a witness found Elizabeth Benavides' 3-year-old son walking near the intersection of South New York and Santa Clara Street just before 7 p.m. Sunday.
The witness called police and officers arrived to find the little boy with no shirt or shoes.
The mother was located a few minutes later.
Benavides was arrested on one count of abandoning or endangering a child.
