"Laredo has some really beautiful treasures of architecture here in town."
Director of the Webb County Heritage Foundation, Margarita Araiza, says they were surprised by the number of those who submitted their entries for the photo contest. They had over 100 entries last year and are hoping for even more this year.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for Laredoans to go out and show what they consider to be a really important part of their heritage."
If your picture is chosen, it will be featured in the 2013 historic Laredo calendar. Araiza says it's interesting to see what people consider part of the local heritage.
"They span from everything from really fancy buildings to very modest, frankly deteriorated ones."
The contest ends Friday July 5th. She's already seen some of the pictures that have been submitted.
"I'm very impressed...very impressed. There's going to be some very interesting ones this year."
Part of the mission is to bring more tourism to Webb county.
"For us, this is a perfect opportunity and I've always advocated the city using our historic resources as attraction."
Just this week, the city introduced a new website that shows people not living in Webb county that the violence we see across in our sister city does not trickle over.
"Some of the bad publicity that surrounds us now...is just that."
With the second photo contest, Araiza thinks this will show visitors just how beautiful Laredo is.
"There's quite a lot people that have a positive view of Laredo. It just needs to be re-enforced."
