Red Flag Warning In Laredo

The high winds from the red flag warning have not only affected homes in Laredo and the carnival, but also us right here at KGNS.
So what exactly is a red flag warning?
Laredo firefighters explain.
The wind is quite a change from the usual hot and dry conditions Laredo experiences. It all has to do with the red flag warning.
"What that means is it's going to be very windy and the humidity is going to be very low."
Vega says the higher winds increase the chance for brush fires or any fires for that matter. There has already been one fire since the winds picked up early this morning.
Firefighters got the call about this fire around 2:30 in the morning. Vega says they are still investigating but it could very well be due to the high winds.
"Fortunately they were able to put it out completely before it damaged the house completely."
Vega goes on to say the months of February, March and April usually are full of red flag warnings.
"We are expected to see these conditions go at least until 7 this evening, but that can change. It can be extended or shortened depending on conditions."
Eager carnival goers are probably hoping the winds will die down so they can enjoy the last day of rides. It was supposed to open at noon, but the WBCA made some changes.
"It's too dangerous right now to have patrons at a carnival so we're postponing it until 4 pm."
The carnival rides were moving on their own due to the high winds. That's something Cardenas didn't want to risk.
"I am sure they'll understand. Nobody would like to go and risk it and we certainly wouldn't want people to risk any of it safety."
People we saw trying to go in understood why they decided to not open the carnival. WBCA employees were out explaining to people.
