Residents React To The Works Being Taken Off The Air

By KGNS News

94.9 the works has been the only rock station in Laredo.
When listeners recently turned on the radio, they were shocked to hear spanish music on 94.9
We spoke to some loyal listeners about how they feel about losing the station.
"We found out it was crazy dude. There's no rock music is not right. I'm used to that 24/7. I just can't believe they're not going to have rock music, that's crazy."
That's what many people around Laredo are saying about their beloved 94.9 the works radio station. Another person we spoke to who's new to Laredo doesn't understand why there are so few radio stations to choose from.
"Definitely any city that is as big as Laredo there's gotta be more diversity on the type of music. What the people listen to is what the owners give them."
We went to Border Media to try to get a response as to what happened to the works and what is in store for the station. The general sales manager did not want to speak on camera, but did tell us that the radio frequency was being rented from a company in Mexico. That company decided they no longer wanted to rent out the frequency, ending the rock station 94.9 In a statement released by border media, it states that the choice was not theirs.
"As it is, I don't listen to local radio stations because there's no variety. And taking that away..that's even worse. What is it rap and stuff like that? It's a bad idea."
Another person choosing not to listen to local radio stations says it's because there's just no variety.
"I was upset. I'm a big rock fan. I don't listen to anything but rock and it was a real shock that we don't have 94.9 anymore. My Ipod which is the only thing I can listen to, but other than that...no station."
