Organizers are calling it “an ampitheatre.” Despite the name they say the it would modify only small area -- currently just a drainage ditch running into the river. They say it may remain part of that drainage system. but with a little work it would be a venue for musicians from Mexico. Those artists would float over on rafts and would play for American listeners. And they would do that all without having to worry about documents to cross into the U.S. “Musicians are going to be brought over on a raft from Mexico. And the higher the water level is -- I guess it will be better because it will allow us to bring the musicians a little bit closer towards us. Towards the ampitheatre we want to create here,” said Edgar Castillo of the Big River Foundation. Part of what you have to remember is that the river is shared between the U.S. and Mexico. This summer we saw a very rare event -- a wedding on the water with both bride and groom from different sides of the river. The organizers tell me they're making sure it's all clear with Customs and Border Protection. As long as the musicians don't touch american soil during their preformance they can play for audiences on this side all they want.
