It was an election lost for Webb County Commissioner Frank Sciaraffa after the recent runoffs and even a recount showing the majority voted in a new comer to take his place. But, now a filed petition contesting all that’s happened a matter he’s taking up with the District Courts. It’s this man, opponent Mike Montemayor who took the race for Webb County Commissioner Pct.#1 in the Democratic run offs beating out Sciaraffa by just four votes this past July. The incumbent then requested a recount showing Montemayor actually led the race by 10 votes. But, Friday afternoon, the Democratic Chair confirms, that Sciaraffa’s attorneys filed a petition at the Webb County District Clerks office alleging irregularities, fraud, and even negligence and a mistake on the part of election officials overseeing the race. The chair confirms, he’s also alleging Montemayor does not meet residency requirements. The petition may or may not stand ground in court, were told. But, it will be referred to an administrative judge who should have an answer in the near future. Meanwhile keep it hear on Pro 8 News. We’ll be following this story closely. Tomorrow our Lauren Kendrick tries to speak to both parties about these recent developments.
