We have new details and video of a large weapons seizure made by the Webb County Sheriff's Department overnight.
We're told it happened after a routine traffic stop at the 24 mile marker of Interstate 35. Deputies made a routine traffic stop and noticed the driver was nervous. A K-9 unit was called to the scene, and the K-9 alerted authorities to the presence of contraband. Deputies found 4 handguns, 32 magazines for those guns, 13 boxes of ammo and one silencer inside the vehicle. A spokesperson for the Sheriff's office says these weapons were intercepted before heading over the border.
Federico Garza, with the Webb County Sheriff's Dept., says "We do suspect that these weapons were probably handed to Mexico and there is no doubt that we can say this. We probably saved some lives on the other side." Garza says the Sheriff's Department has seized over 180 weapons over the last year alone.
