In an effort to provide better safety for the residents of Webb County, the Sheriff's office will be providing air patrol in the area around Las Lomas and Centenarios.
People who live there say they felt alone without much police presence.
now they say they have hope... help will arrive quickly.
About 20 miles east on Highway 59 you'll hit two quiet little subdivisions here in Webb county;
an area where criminals can run a muck.
Juan Carlos Robles a resident in the area said,"I got robbed about a year ago, a lot of us did, we felt like we didn't have the support that we needed."
Webb county is the 6th largest county in Texas, so patrolling the vast area can pose a challenge. Amaury Obregon believes an eye in the sky will detour criminal activity.
"when we left the house we never know what we were coming back to, I don't know maybe we were robbed but knowing that the sheriffs department is here we live more better," said Obregon.
The Sheriff's Department says they're the first responders to the area in case of an emergency, the technology and equipment they have received is vital to the surrounding community.
Juan Carlos Robles said, "now with this new helicopter running around we can lower that crime rate because from here to Laredo we call and it takes a bit for them to get here."
Right now the helicopter patrols only by day but the Sheriffs Department has plans to install infrared so they can catch bad guys by night reporting Orlando Garza KGNS coverage you can count on.
