Sheriff's Deputy Arrested on Family Violence Charges

By KGNS News

Laredo Police arrest a Webb Co. Sheriff Deputy after a case involving family violence. It is our top story tonight. 34-year-old Rene Perez was arrested last night after a call came into the police department. However details about the incident are vague since it is a family violence case. In addition to being charged with one count of family violence, Perez was also charged with one count of interfering with an emergency call. We're told he was off duty when the incident occurred. According to a statement issued by the Webb Co. Sheriff's office, Perez has been employed with them for eight years as a peace officer.

Sheriff Cuellar issued a statement saying, "Each deputy and employee of the Webb County Sheriff's office is responsible for their own actions. As peace officers we are held to a higher standard and Perez will have his day in court."
