Sheriff's Office Explains Deputy's Actions

It's video that caught attention nation wide.
A Webb County Sheriff Deputy is seen pointing a gun at the riverbanks where immigrants are illegally crossing.
The video got people wondering why the deputy drew his weapon in a situation where there are innocent people.
Today the Sheriffs Office clarified to KGNS that Thursday deputies were involved in an operation to pursue a wanted international fugitive who escaped a Nuevo Laredo prison in 2010.
They tell us they spotted the known Zeta member at a south Laredo restaurant.
They approached him as he held a 10-month-old, who he allegedly tossed at deputies before he ran off.
Webb County Sheriff Deputy Kristina Guerra said, “with that the fugitive fled the area and headed towards the riverbanks. The officers pursued him on foot and the fugitive gave chase to the riverbanks,that's the video you see, at no time were the deputies engaging in an immigration case or enforcing immigration laws they were in pursuit of a wanted fugitive from Mexico.”
Deputies say the fugitive commingled himself among the immigrants in the river and he escaped.
