Kids around town are doing their part this week to help out the less fortunate in Laredo.
All U.I.S.D. Elementary schools are collecting donations for the south Texas Food Bank.
It's part of national school breakfast week.
At Nye Elementary this morning students were putting money in a special container.
The kids are all shining stars.
Donations are being gathered through the cafeteria managers at each elementary campus.
U.I.S.D. Food Department, Ariana Valdez said, "today we are kicking off our school breakfast week and we're doing a little fund raiser called 'be a shining star' and kids can donate their spare change to South Texas Food Bank and the food service department is collecting it and that way they can help other children who are food insecure who don't eat normally."
Students are asked to choose to donate during their breakfast or lunch periods.
Donations will be used to provide warm meals for those who are less fortunate.
Every person that donates will have their names placed on the shining star wall.
