Status Of LCC's Recent Probation
"Laredo Community College has been placed on probation for failing to comply with the southern association of colleges and schools."
Concerned citizen hector farias brought this to our attention and says he is very upset to hear the news. In a document given to us...THE Southern association of colleges and schools disclosed details as to why l-c-c was placed on probation. In the document...IT Says l-c-c failed to demonstrate compliance with comprehensive standards. But according to farias...HE Claims that's not the only thing l-c-c has been in trouble with.
"The LVN program for not having a sufficient number of students pass their boards."
Another item that stood out in the document is the date when the academic probation allegedly took place, June 21st of this year.
"The worst thing of it is that the president withheld this information from the trustees and from most of us who pay for that institution."
Farias says the college has never been placed on academic probation in the 65 years it has been in service. We tried to speak to the president of LCC, but were told he did not have time. Instead a written statement was sent via email. In the email LCC President Juan Maldonado insists the college did not receive official notice from the southern association for colleges and schools until Tuesday July 17th. They did however find out July 11th. He goes on to say the college is not on probation, but according to the document, LCC has been placed on probation for 12 months after review of the institution's monitoring report following action on reaffirmation of accreditation in 2010. Maldonado says the re-accreditation will not impact the college's instructional programs or college operations in any way. Farias says he's worried for the students attending.
"They lost sight of their mission, which is to educate our students. For a lot of students, this is their way out of poverty."
