Over 900 students are taking part in a CPR training at the Laredo Energy Arena on Friday.
The training is all part of an effort by several local groups to give students the opportunity to learn CPR, a skill they say is very important. Marc Martinez, firefighter and paramedic, says "It makes a huge difference particularly when you deal with patients that are not breathing. You need to provide the oxygen for the body, because the heart's not doing it. So, the earlier they recognize the patient needs CPR, the earlier they do CPR, the better the outcome is going to be for the patient."
Here in Laredo over 280 calls for cardiac arrests were made last year. Paramedics say doing CPR in the minutes before help arrives can vastly change the outcome of the patient.
