We first told you about the students who were taking water samples out of the Rio Grande on Wednesday.
That same day a class at Alexander High School witnesses illegal dumping.
Our Lauren Kendrick spoke to those students and the company who did the dumping and joins us with more.
It's still not known exactly what was dumped , but the results of the water are shocking.
Here's what the science teacher had to say about the incident.
This creek looks calm with ducks swimming, but looks can be deceiving.
"We don't know where it's coming from, what it is especially if you see fish dying you're...i don't know what your response would be. You're shocked."
That's the reaction from a science teacher at Alexander High School after she and three of her students were conducting a water test at zacete creek near the school. While there, a plumbing company showed up.
"The van from Arellano Plumbing backed up and took down trash cans and they start dumping while we're testing them."
The waste dumped from the car is something lira describes as dense sludge like material. They ended up testing the water after the van left and were shocked with the results.
"We got a scoop of water from the area where they dumped it and we tested it for ecoli."
The location where the students witnesses the illegal dumping is actually the head of the zacete creek which feeds into the Rio Grande River.
"There's little towns that don't even have the means to purify this water. they just drink it straight out of the Rio Grande."
"As it is the river is one of the 10 most endangered rivers in the world and we as individuals and local companies don't need to be adding to that."
Environmentalist Tricia Cortez says she wants to see the full extent of the law applied to Arellano Plumbing.
"Consequences that they will feel legally and financially but also for them to understand there are serious environmental issues and there can even be public health consequences to this type of illegal dumping that they do."
We went to speak to the owner of Arellano Plumbing who gave us mixed answers.
Two of the students that witnessed the act want the company to to responsibility.
"Find a better way to dump all that waste. There's no need for that. It's going to affect us all in the long run."
"There's a lot of ignorance about the environment and we don't pay attention to what we're doing to it.
It is not clear what consequences will come out of this incident.
