Another issue that was discussed during tonight’s city council meeting was talks about working with a train company to stop blocking intersections around town. James Johnson joins us with more on this story, James.
The city has been trying to work things out with Kansas City Southern Railway for quite sometime now and hope they can resolve these issues sooner then later.
If you've ever driven around town you've probably found yourself stopped at an intersection for 30 to 45 minutes not waiting for the light to change, but because a train has blocked many of the intersections. People are forced to wait in their cars until the train starts to move again and for some pedestrians they put themselves in harms way.

Whenever the train comes through Laredo and stops it creates a hazardous situation not only for the public but also for emergencies personal as well.
[cg:newsuper\ray garner\laredo chief of police] 23:12:19:15 "when that stops we have to go around that delays our response but we use our GPS and get around.
The train also makes it hard for people who are trying to get to work. A restaurant worker who wished to remain anonymous has been late to work because of the train and is happy to hear the city is working to fix this problem.
[cg:new1sup\works downtown] 23:08:02:27 "I’m usually late to work because of the train 23:09:22:20 "I think that's a good thing about the city.
[cg:newsuper\james johnson\kgns reporter] 23:10:48:12 "according to mayor Salinas, this issues with the train not only affects Laredo but the Mexico side as well.
[cg:newsuper\raul g. Salinas\lardeo, mayor] 22:51:21:01 "we need a resolution they tell us the brakes need to be inspected in Mexico, but maybe they push them back further into the interior of Mexico. 22:52:25:01 "I think we need to open a conversation with Mexico. 22:54:04:11 "it's really a public safety issue and we need to resolve it, the sooner the better.
Now what a lot of people don't realize is when that train is stopped and you try and go around the barricade or climb over the train you're actually breaking the law. You can receive a ticket as high as five hundred dollars and you're really putting yourself in danger. The best thing to do is wait or find a safe way to get around. For KGNS, I'm James Johnson.
