UISD Prom Dress Donation Drive

With prom quickly approaching, UISD is helping to make that special day memorable for their students.
After receiving a number of phone calls asking if there was a program to help students in need of prom dresses and suits, UISD decided to hold a donation drive asking for gently used formal wear.
"We have students at all grade levels in these areas that are going to be enjoying prom thanks to the donations that you see here."
With middle school and high school proms happening in late April and May, the deadline to donate is right around the corner.
"So if we can get these items in by mid April we'll be great and be able to get these donations out to our students."
Although donations are still being collected, there is already a wide array of styles and colors in prom dresses to choose from. Cantu says some girls have already called asking when they can pick one out.
"We'll set up something nice for them where they can come over perhaps with their parents and pick something out and we'll also be going to the campuses because we do have some students that can't make it over so we'll be meeting them at their campuses as well."
Cantu says this donation drive is such a success that now some students who weren't planning to attend their prom now can't wait to go.
"Whenever UISD puts out a call for help the community responds. This is the result of that response...it is overwhelming as usual."
