City Opens Animal Care Facility

By KGNS News

The City of Laredo Animal Care Facility has finally opened it's doors and will begin adopting out animals in need of homes.
It's been months since the city took on the project and they say this is only the beginning.
With 82 kennels and over nine thousand square feet of space the City of Laredo animal care facility is now home to many unwanted animals looking for good homes.
This facility is many months in the making after the city broke ties with the Laredo Animal Shelter.
but now, the city says it's ready to move forward with the health department leading the way.
“We're happy to have all the groups united for one mission and that is to take care of animals that through no fault of their own are here on this earth and we gotta take care of them.”
The city has put in $1.5 million dollars to built the facility.. that includes a clinic for minor care, spay, neuter and euthanasia.
City leaders say they will continue funding the effort to help save those animals lives.
“We're gona be pouring money in here to make sure that we have a state of the art facility.”
Part of the efforts will include educating the public about caring for their pets.
“We strongly recommend that they take care of their pets and avoid letting them go out on the streets and letting in a sense be in danger.”
And encouraging people to adopt.
“It will allow us to inform the public work with the public a little bit more and allow us to adopt some of these animals out.”
“We have to make sure we give them a chance at life.”
Only phase one of the project has been completed so far.
Phase two will include additional kennels and more landscaping.
