It's quite an unusual sport that takes strength, agility and a deep mindset.
It's the sport of jujitsu and the sport one local boy excels in.
Nicky Tijerina, 9, has earned twenty metals and won a world championship title in December.
The North American Grappling Association World Championship took place in Dallas and there were over 1100 competitors.
Nicky got involved in the sport to learn self-defense.
Luis Delossantos\Trainer: "He came to us one day, we didn't have a kids program. So his parents OK'ed for him to come train with the adults. He's done well, very technical."
Luis Delossantos has been training Nicky for about five months and trains almost everyday at PCS fitness.
Nicky says he is proud when he 'submits' his opponent and wins competitions.
“Because I work hard for it.”
Nicky has been practicing Jujitsu for over a year and won his first metal on June 18, 2011.
He says Jujitsu is something everyone should learn.
"Come to the gym and we'll teach you.”
Nicky is also sponsored by Most Hated Gear and has some big competitions coming up in March, including the Gracie Grappling Cup where he will fight for a belt.
