Man's Arrest in Austin Leads to Laredo Police Internal Investigation

By KGNS News

The Laredo Police Department continues their internal investigation trying to determine if there was any wrongdoing on behalf of one of their officers after his PD issued handgun and identification were found during the arrest of a Laredoan in Austin.
Austin police officers pulled over 46-year-old Aldo Marc Ortegon and arrested him for DUI. Upon further search of the vehicle, officers found a gun registered to the Laredo police officer, police identification as well as a controlled substance. The firearm was allegedly in the backseat of a Toyota Tacoma owned by a Laredo officer. Investigators say Ortegon was the driver and had an unidentified female passenger with him.
A spokesperson for Laredo PD says the officer, who has not been identified, will not be charged in the case but an internal investigation is ongoing. We’ll continue to follow this case, but in the meantime, we've learned that Aldo Marc Ortegon has been a campaign manager for several local politicians including one in office right now.
