New Road Could Help with Traffic on Jacaman

By KGNS News

Traffic near the Jacaman road area can cause lots of headaches, especially during rush hour or after events are held in the Laredo Energy Arena.
But that could soon change, as one councilman is proposing to build another road that would connect Bartlett Ave. and Del Mar.
"If you drive down McPherson at certain times of the day, between Fenwick and Jacaman is downright dangerous at times."
Councilman Roque Vela said he wants to make his district a safer place for drivers by building a connecting road from Bartlett to beside the post office on Del Mar.
Both of these two roads are dead ends now, but Vela said he just had a meeting with the landowner on Tuesday to discuss some master plans.
"In a city that is growing at the rate we're growing, it is important that....we are a few years behind infrastructure as it is and if we continue to grow at the rate we are growing and we don't expand our infrastructure, i.e. roads and drainage, then we are going to be in a heap of trouble."
The councilman said this project is one of his top priorities to get started because it will affect everyone in the community.
"It will affect people on a daily basis, going to work, taking their child to school, getting from one side of Laredo to the other is going to be that much easier."
This project will also help with traffic after the arena events.
Councilman Roque Vela hopes the city can start on this project soon.
