Officer Reyes Gives Thanks to the Community

By KGNS News

Thanksgiving is next week and one well-known person in the Laredo community would like to give his thanks this year.
Officer Reyes who was severely injured in an accident last year would like to thank the community for all their support.
Thanksgiving is right the corner, but one family that won't be able to celebrate will be the Reyes family.
"They’re going to reconstruct several features on my nose and several fractures on my forehead and around my eye sockets and relocate my jaw."
Officer Reyes will be undergoing facial reconstruction surgery next Monday and will still be recovering on thanksgiving.
The family is asking for the communities thoughts and prayers because it helped him recover from his accident.
"(Wife): ‘We we're in the HEB remember?’ (Reyes): A little girl about 12 years old came up to me and she was like, you're the policeman that got hurt on 35 and I go, ‘yes ma'am’ and she said me and my family prayed for you. It was a complete stranger, it was very heartwarming, it brought a tear right then. I didn't know who this person is."
The family has put up their Christmas tree early this year. It's usually their Thanksgiving tradition, but they want it to be up when officer Reyes comes home from the hospital.
He and his wife said they are giving thanks for his life.
"I'm thankful that I'm here. Because it could have been a lot worse than what it was. We're thankful for our life. To wake up every morning and to be here."
His surgery will take place next Monday and this is just the first part of three surgeries he will have to undergo.
Officer Reyes could not thank the community enough for all their thoughts and prayers in his recovery.
