State Rep Talks about Manufacturing Opportunities in Laredo

By KGNS News

Laredo has thrived the last few decades because of trade with Mexico, and because of that, there's now an opportunity for Laredo to profit from the growing manufacturing industry. The import-export business is king here, but we've never been able to cash in on a growing manufacturing industry like other border cities - not even as cities as close as San Antonio have become manufacturing powerhouses. That's the reason the Logistics and Manufacturing Association of Port Laredo is so excited to have a representative in Austin that can help.
The association invited Laredo's newest representative, Tracy King, to speak to the group. King's district was redrawn to include Laredo, and he recently won re-election. Now the representative is on a house committee dealing specifically with manufacturing. The association is now enlisting his help in trying to figure out how to bring more light on manufacturing and assembly plants to our border. Last year the manufacturing industry pumped more than 22-billion dollars into San Antonio's economy, and this year, it's expected to grow even more. The group would like to see some of that money stay here at home.
