It's a follow-up to a story you first saw on Pro 8 News last week.
The story involved a family living in central Laredo with yucky yellow water.
Councilman Narvaez went out to the residence and took one look at the yellow water and said its not yellow. The city of Laredo Uilities Department stood by the councilman, saying despite the yellow color, the water is absolutely safe.
Last week we showed you Esther’s yucky yellow water filled pool. She told us she filled her brand new above ground pool with her hose, and she got a pool filled with yellow water. Councilman for her district Juan Narvaez came to look at the problem and had this to say about the water.
“Looking at it you do agree the water is yellow correct? Basically the water is not yellow. It’s the bottom surface of the pool. That’s why I was questioning them earlier how long has the water been in the pool? Sometimes with the heat the water is heated with chlorine. As you can see it’s an open lot with dust got into the pool overnight."
"Everybody I’ve spoken to has said you can clearly see that the water was a dingy yellow color."
Since then Esther has dumped the water, re-filled the pool, and added a number of water treatments.
"Esther is now having to spend a lot of extra money on products you usually wouldn't have to use for an above ground pool. She’s even having to throw projects into her pool that you usually would only see in an in ground pool."
"These are for the regular pools. Drop a chlorine tablet in there and I bought some of these and I bought my own test strips so I can test the water and I went to Johnson pool and bought one of these."
She bought all of those water treatment products despite the fact the city's water test results show the water is safe and clean.
"She says the chlorine in the front faucet is 3.1, however the one back here which is the one I use to fill the pool is 1.3. I don’t understand why the numbers are so significantly different."
The utilities department explained to her that she has nothing to worry about because her test results show her water meets the minimum requirement. Then why is her water still yellow?
"I still can’t get any answers. Mr. Narvaez had come over and he said the water was fine and someone from the water department said the water was fine."
Councilman Juan Narvaez tells us a lot of homes in that area. He says her home's pipes could be rusted and causing the water to come out a dirty yellow color.

I bought the same identical pool as this lady and the instructions read that you have to purchase cholorine tablets..so much for reading the directions. There is also a pump that has to be turned on to treat the water. As far as the water being yellow, I think her plumbing should be checked first. How old is her home? Also each time she re-fills this pool, she's wasting a valuable resource. Where is the utility department to provide a citation if she disposes of the water incorrectly.

The "Brown Swimming Pool Water" was not squarely answered and should have been. I just received the required "Drinking Water Report" from the Utilities Dept. and I find it strange that all of the tests preformed are at the MAXIMUM side of the range window. No wonder the resident, with the brown pool water, can't get a straight answer. Makes you wonder about the REAL levels of contaminants in our water doesn't it? Pro8 News needs to dig on this one!

She had the water tested and showed significant differences in the amount of chlorine, both in the front faucet and the back faucet. If Mr. Narvaez believes the water is clean, Esther should have simply poured the water into the glass instead of the pool and offered Mr. Narvaez to drink it.

this lady should feel lucky she can afford a pool. most can't even afford food to feed the family with. if her water is yellow then she needs to check her household plumbing. if that is the only faucet that is showing some tint of yellow replace the water lines and stop complaining to the city about something the city has no buisness involved in. she needs to check her own house before accusing someone else of a problem.

If Mr. Narvaez says the water is not yellow, Esther should have given him a glass of water to drink.

i think concetta needs to do more research on her story. i have been having above grounds pools for about 4 years if that lady did not know that the pool that she had needed to be treated like an below ground pool. she needs to buy the same chemicals as a big pool. the only thing wrong with that water is that it is dirty. it happened to me when i first bought my first pool.
