The Alexander girls basketball team has not gone leaderless long as UISD announced the schools next head coach. Gilbert Cardenas will take over immediately as the head coach of a team that advanced to the elite eight of the UIL playoffs last season. Cardenas was the assist and head coach of Alexander's boys team last season and before that served as assist and varsity coach of the United girls team for five seasons. His hiring comes after the surprising resignation of former head coach Javier Reyes. The Bulldogs girls team has been a dominant one the past two seasons, going 68-7 overall and 35-1 in district play.
