Alexander Hitting their Stride, Face Tough Test in Weslaco

By KGNS News

After starting the season 1-3, many people doubted whether the Alexander Bulldogs were poised to make another run at the UIL playoffs. Since that time the Blue and Gold have won six out of their last seven, including five in a row. It hasn't just been the sheer number of wins that has been impressive, but the manner in which they have come. Much of that success can be attributed to running back Xavier Skaggs, who has run for almost 400 yards in the last two games and has nine total touchdowns. It hasn't been just the senior carrying the load, as the entire team seems to be playing their best ball at the right time.

Alexander will face the Weslaco Panthers, who beat Los Fresnos 28-24 last week. The #2 team out of district 31-5A went 6-5 on the season, but are considered better then their record. In common opponents, both teams lost to Edcouch-Elsa, but the Panthers lost to Donna 28-14, the same team Alexander beat last week in the bi-district round.

Even with their down record, coach Lopez says Weslaco will throw a number of different looks at his high powered offense and the Bulldogs need to be ready for anything.

Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 7:30 tomorrow night at Texas A&M Kingsville.
