Fernandez Signs at Houston Prep School

By KGNS News

The 1st Wednesday in February is a big one for high school football players all over the country, as it is the first chance they have to sign with college programs. Today one Laredoan got a chance to add his signature to the dotted line and will get a chance to play at the next level. Nixon's Erick Fernandez signed to play football with Southeast Prep out of Houston beginning this fall. The defensive tackle says he made the decision to go the prep route because it will give him a chance to increase his strength in the weight room without hurting his eligibility for colleges in another year.

"Playing at the next level it's way different in that the other players are just as fast and strong as the best players from your local city."

Fernandez was an anchor on the defensive line for a Mustangs team that came up just short of the playoffs. He will be making the switch to the offensive side of the ball and is expected to play fullback at Southeast Prep.
