Golf Course Opens to Rave Reviews

By KGNS News

After years in the making and 11 months after it was supposed to be open, the Max A. Mendal golf course saw it's first action today and is getting rave reviews.

"It's hard to believe this is Laredo. I would tell everyone to come and try it out. It really is a beautiful to come."(Arturo Ortega)

The course sits on the banks of the Rio Grande, in what most call brushland, not your typical spot for 18 holes. The new operators of the property say all it took was a little imagination to see the potential that laid beneath the bushes.

"Carving this golf course out of the brush country and pushing this brush back to reveal the course and an artists eye with an attention to detail is really all it took. From the beginning the golf course was here, we mainly discovered it instead of forcing it in and made it happen." (Dan Pedrotti)

A four-person scramble was the first event to be held with over 140 participants taking aim at the fairways and greens. So far the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.

"The terrain lends itself and is very challenging on some holes but easier on some others but the terrain is just beautiful." (Carlos Rodriguez)

With at least one person seeing it as nice enough to draw out-of-towners to the Gateway City.

"This is going to be great for Laredo and I hope we see a lot of people come from out of town for this because it's a beautiful course and I see a lot of visitors coming from the surrounding area to visit this course." (Sid Holden)
