A big day for one of Laredo's sons as Kaleb Canales was named Interim Head Coach of the NBA's Portland Trailblazers this afternoon. Canales is a graduate of Alexander High School and has been with the Blazers for the past seven seasons. He initially started as a Video Assistant and worked his way up to full fleged Assistant Coach in 2009, even serving as the teams summer league coach in 2010.
The former Bulldog takes over a team in a major upheaval after firing former Head Coach Nate McMillan and trading veterans Gerald Wallace and Marcus Camby in the past 12 hours. The team has also lost seven of its last nine games. Canales and the Trailblazers will visit San Antonio on Monday, April 23rd.
