Laredos newest professional sports team is gearing up for the first game of their season this upcoming weekend. The Laredo Roses will be a team competing in the Sugar and Spice football league, which consists of five teams from the south Texas area. While some may think this is powder puff football, the girls competing say it will be a game just as vicious and exciting on the field as the one men play. So what exactly can fans expect to see this Saturday? We'll let the ladies tell you.
"They can expect a game, a lot of contact, a lot of fighting, a lot of fierce women. It's going to get crazy."
"The goal is to win. The goal is always to win and not just win but dominate. I feel like people have been sizing us up and we are going to let them size us up while we take them down."
The Roses will kick off their first season here in Laredo this Saturday as they take on the Texas Cowgirls out of San Antonio. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 at Uni-Trade Stadium.
