The first ever 'Sister Cities Classic' is a little over a week away and the lemurs will have a familiar face on the mound that night. Today the Lemurs announced that former minor league pitcher and Laredo baseball legend Tano Tijerina will get the start on the bump for his hometown team. Tijernia was selected in the 8th round of the 1993 major league draft by the Milwaukee Brewers, spending five years in their organization before calling it a career. Now at the age of 39 he says he couldn't be happier to be donning the Lemurs uniform and pitching against a team from his childhood.
One week from tonight the two cities will come together for a city versus city softball game and a home-run derby. The events on Wednesday will start at six. The Lemurs will take on the Nuevo Laredo Tecos next Thursday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:30.
