The United softball team struggled through much of the season needing a late surge to and force a three way tie for the final two spots in the postseason. Once into the mini playoff, the longhorns were able to knock off Del Rio guaranteeing them a spot in the 5A playoffs for the third straight year. Now that the Longhorns have made the postseason, they realize everyone’s record is 0-0 and they are ready to take on the best team in district 30-5A knowing it will take a lot to beat them.
"It's going to take everything we've practiced for, just being together, being a team. That's what it's going to take." (Leah Teniente, Longhorn outfielder)
"You win some and you lose some and the ones that we have lost I know for a fact have made us stronger and they have prepared us for the playoffs." (Mrissa Csneros, Longhorn shortstop)
"It's playoffs so it's not the same as districts but we are ready, we are ready for this team and we've been practicing our hardest. Hopefully it's good enough." (Clarissa Carrillo, Longhorn 2nd baseman)
United will take on Edinburg in the bi-district round of the UIL playoffs with game one taking place Friday at seven in Zapata. Game two will be Saturday at 11 am, and if a third game is necessary they will not play it until Monday because of the two schools already scheduled proms.
