After months of searching for a new Athletic Director, the Dustdevils finally have their man. The school announced Wednesday they have hired Gilbert "Grizz" Zimmermann to take over for Dr. Len Nardone as the head of the athletic department. Zimmermann comes to Laredo from Lake Erie College in Painesville, OH, where he served as AD since 2007. This will not be his first stop in the Lone Star State, as Grizz has also served as Assistant AD for SMU.
After going through a number of candidates, the search committee felt Zimmermann was the perfect man for the job. "He has led a program which has vastly expanded in recent years. He has presided over a much larger program than we have at TAMIU. So we want his experience, we want his expertise, we want his guidance because we want our to be in every way better and bigger." (Dr. Ray Keck, TAMIU President)
Zimmerman will begin work as Athletic Director on July 8th. He will look over a department that sent its; volleyball, women's soccer, men's basketball, softball and baseball teams to the Heartland Conference playoffs this year.
