The TAMIU men and women invaded San Antonio today as they each opened Heartland conference play against St. Mary’s. The men played 90 minutes and neither team could get on the board as it ends 0-0 tonight. TAMIU would have two good looks at the net in the final minutes of the second overtime but both times were thwarted by the goalposts. Goalkeeper Jesus Cisneros earns his second straight shutout after blanking Midwestern St. on Friday. Sadly though for TAMIU they were not able to score in either game. The Dustdevils start the conference season with tie, making their record 1-2-2 overall.
In the women’s game, the Dustdevils continued their hot ways by defeating the Rattlers 1-0 this afternoon, giving them their third win of the season and their second this year over St. Mary’s. It was a scoreless game at the half but Sol Medina would change that in the 62nd minute with her 3rd goal of the season that would prove to be the difference maker. Aissa Pedraza continues to be a brick wall in the goal earning her third straight shutout and has not given up a goal since 16th ranked Central Oklahoma scored two in the first game of the season.
Both the men and women will be home this Thursday to take on Newman University. The women will kick off at 5, while the men start at 7:30.
