It was a good Friday for TAMIU's pitchers, holding the McMurry Warhawks to no runs on only five hits over their two games. Now game one starter Jerry Hawkins has been named the Heartland Conference Pitcher of the Week. Hawkins was dominant in the series opener, going all seven innings, giving up only two hits on his way to a complete game shutout. The righthander was able to strike out seven batters, while only giving up one walk, as he evened his record at 4-4. "I looked up at the scoreboard and realized I'd only given up two hits. I was just in the zone out there. I was coming into the dugout and my teammates were staying away from me. I was in the zone, feeling good."
Hawkins and the Dustdevils will be at home for their final series in Laredo this season as they take on 16th ranked St. Mary's at Jorge Haynes Field Friday and Saturday.
