After winning the 2013 championship, the Toros of the two Laredo’s will now go back to the Toros of Nuevo Laredo. According to Laredo Energy Arena officials as well as the director of the Toros, they will not play on the United States side this season. The Toros said their organization does not make a profit, and relies on the funding from the Mexican state government for the team. When their state government found out they were playing on the United States side last season, they cut their budget in half, making it impossible for the team to operate. The seats were often empty last year when the Toros played here in Laredo, but bad timing might have been an issue; The Toros usually played on Friday nights, during high school football season. The city invested over $140,000 into buying a new basketball court last August. The court was going to be used for the annual UISD school rivalry games as well as the Toros.
