The UISD swim team is gearing up for another run at districts, but this squad is different from any other you'll see in Laredo. All four schools in the district train together, but when it comes times to compete, the Bulldogs, Longhorns, Panthers and Wolves do so as seperate schools. While it can make for some interesting situations at practice, the swimmers say it ultimately keeps them driven and working that much harder in the pool.
"It's an amazing because you practice together hard and when you get to the meet you are against them but you are still cheering for them. You want them to win but you want to win as well, so it's kind of fun." (Mia Pugh)
"We're all pretty comfortable with each other. We've grown up together. I've been on this team for six or seven years and so I'd say we are all pretty comfortable with each other." (Daniel Cantu)
The district meet will take place this Saturday in Corpus Christi, where a number of UISD swimmers are expected to qualify for regionals.
