United Looking to Heal over Bye Week

By KGNS News

The United Longhorns set up a difficult early season schedule, taking on four San Antonio schools to prepare them for district 29-5A play. United has started the district season 2-0 with a 14 point win over United South and then followed that with an impressive 25 point beating of playoff hopeful LBJ. Most thought the Longhorns would change up their aerial offense with the loss of QB Alec Salas for the season, but the change has not been that noticeable with over 30 pass attempts the last two weeks. Their rushing numbers have gone up, but that could be a product of United holding leads in those games, something they did not do in non-district play.

The Longhorns now go into their bye week and head coach David Sanchez says it couldn't come at a better time. "We've got our quarterback who has a sprained ankle and Terry Delhite, our receiver, has been playing with a nagging turf toe. A couple other kids have some shoulder bruises and things. This gives them a chance to stay off the contact and heal a little bit."

United will be off this week before starting their stretch run of games against potential playoff teams, Eagle Pass, Del Rio and Alexander.
