At United high school, another student athlete is on their way to college, but this one wasn't even participating in their sport a few months ago. Michelle Gonzalez came to Laredo two years ago and immediately picked up a volleyball for the Longhorns, but it was a friend convincing her to tryout for track that changed her life.
Today Gonzalez signed a Letter of Intent to participate in track and cross country for Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX. Now as Gonzalez moves on, she is excited for the next step in her athletic and academic challenges.
"I'm super excited and am extremely thankful to my coaches, my teammates, my family and God. Also a little bit scared because of the next challenge that I'm going to face but thankful especially."
Gonzalez was able to make it to regionals this year, drawing the eye and interest of the Jackrabbits coaches.
