Zapata: Battle of the Classes

By KGNS News

The small town of Zapata came together this afternoon for what they call, Battle of the Classes.
Each graduating class from Zapata High School came together to make a co-ed team, including a mixed class of those who graduated in the seventies going up against teams who recently graduated.
Participants said this is the largest tournament they have had.
(Alan Montes\class of '89,organizer): "It started out with 16 teams...then it built to 24 teams, to 25 teams, now we got 26. It turned out to be very successful, and the community loves it."
(Greg Padilla\Class of '99): "It's fun. There’s parents’ competing against their kids, brothers competing against their little sisters or vice versa. It's awesome."
Zapata does this twice a year to raise money for someone in the community.
This year, all money raised is going toward an eight month old, who is currently in a San Antonio hospital undergoing surgeries and treatment for a rare disease.
Their tournament is still going as of 11 p.m. Saturday night.

SPORTS: Nat'l Champ.
