The TAMIU baseball program came out of the gates on fire in 2013, even cracking the national rankings for the first time in program history. Since then the Dustdevils have cooled off some, but can still reach the Heartland Conference postseason for the first time with any combination of two TAMIU wins or two Newman loses. The task will not be easy though as they will take on conference powers St. Mary's and St. Edwards over the next two weekends. With the rattlers coming to town tomorrow the seniors would love to get that clinching win at home.
"It's senior night, a lot of our parents are going to be there who haven't gotten to see us play all season. So it'd be huge to clinch it on the home field. I've never played in a playoff game in my collegiate career, so that would be awesome." (Jerry Hawkins, Dustdevil starting pitcher)
"It's our last game on this field and we should have our biggest crowd of the season. It would be great to clinch against one of the top teams in the country." (Alex Salas, Dustdevil 3rd baseman)
TAMIU's three game series with 13th ranked St. Mary’s will start with a double header Friday beginning at noon and will conclude on Saturday with a first pitch of noon at Jorge Haynes Field.
