Laredoan Wins Gold at Olympic Trials; Misses Out on London

By KGNS News

Former Alexander High standout and current Texas A&M Aggie Sam Humphreys was trying to pull off the unthinkable last night, qualify for the 2012 Olympics. Humphreys was competing in the Javelin toss and despite bringing home the gold medal, came up just short of making the team headed to London later this summer.

The former Bulldog threw for an A&M school best 268' 7" in Eugene, Or., but came up just 14 centimeters or roughly six inches shy of qualifying. The US Olympic team requires an "A" rating over the course of the year, something Humphrey's came up just short of. Instead of going to London this summer Humphreys will now compete in the Under-23 World Championships in
Guanajuato, Mexico.
