For the second straight year the Alexander Bulldog baseball team finds themselves in the sweet 16 of the UIL 5A playoffs and the opponent is the same one they faced last year. Alexander will take on the San Antonio Churchill Chargers in a best-of-three series this Friday and Saturday in Alice. Last season the Bulldogs took their three game series, winning game one 4-0 before dropping game two, but winning the rubber match 5-4 in a barn burner. The Chargers have gone 30-6 this season and bring back much of the same nucleus that got them to sweet 16 for the third year in a row.
Alexander players say they are ready for another match-up with Churchill but will not be over confident with their past success against the Chargers.
The three game series will start tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 8 pm. Game two will be Saturday at 4 pm, with game three to follow Saturday evening, if it is necessary. All games will take place at Alice High School.
