We have seen numerous high school baseball and softball players sign letters of intent to play college ball, even a few soccer and football stars as well. Laredo is not known as a hot bed of basketball talent, even with some lengthy playoff runs made by teams from the Gateway City recently. Today one of United High's own signed his name on to play for home town TAMIU as Rudy Gonzalez will play for the Dustdevils. Gonzalez was a key cog in a Longhorns team that advanced to the regional semi-finals this past season before bowing out to Steele. Gonzalez says staying close to home and playing for a winning team were important to him and he's willing to help however he can. Gonzalez plans to study either civil or petroleum engineering. He will join Danny Rosas, who also graduated from United as the only local talents on the Dustdevils roster.
