There is one undefeated team left in Laredo and that distinction belongs to the Mustangs of Nixon. Through four games, the green and gold have allowed a grand total of seven points and were one of two teams going into last Friday that hadn't given up a single point. While Nixon hasn't faced a murders row of opponents, they also haven't beaten up on a bunch of 2A foes either. The Mustangs took on a pair of 5A teams in Eagle Pass and CC Winn before facing Zapata and finally district foe Cigarroa. Any questions about the talent of this team could be answered this week as they take on their best team yet in Corpus Christi Ray.
Over in Corpus, the Texans have been an offensive machine so far averaging over 44 points a game so far and have been held under 49 only once. This match-up appears to be strength on strength with their offense matching the Nixon defense. Ray knows it is an early season showdown that could have big playoff implications down the road.
Last years game between these two teams was a 50-41 thriller that the Texans were able to win on the Shirley Field turf. Look for a much lower scoring game tomorrow night in Corpus when these two meet.
