Nixon Boys Basketball Off to a Hot Start

By KGNS News

The Nixon boys basketball team is off to one of the better starts in school history, not only in district play but overall as well. Coming off their victory over Martin on Tuesday night, the Mustangs are now 4-0 in District 31-4A and have won 12 straight games. In fact their last loss came over a month ago at the Pride of Texas tournament against Port Aransas.

It's been an uptempo attack fueling their success on offense as Nixon is averaging almost 74 points a game and a 1-3-1 defense that hounds opponents on defense. While fans see the final product, the players say it's the hardwork they don't see that leads to their stellar play.
"Every practice is intense, we never go slow. Every motion is full speed, that's the way it is." (Rolando Bustamante, Nixon Forward)

"We have to stay humble because we know if we stop working hard anybody can beat us on any given day. We have to be humble and work hard every day and that's what we do every day." (Ricky Arana, Nixon Guard)

Nixon is on pace to set records in every major statistical category in the Pete Solis Jr. era. The Mustangs have yet to meet the other favorite in the district, but will take on Miller one week from Friday in Corpus Christi.
