St. Aug Turning Heads Early in Season

By KGNS News

In high school basketball, a number of teams have started the 2012 season on the right foot, but one in particular has turned more then a few heads. The St. Augustine Knights have sprinted out to an 8-4 record, beating a number of higher ranked teams in the process. Earlier in the month the Knights dropped the Martin Tigers and Cigarroa Toro's in the span of a week. Just last night St. Aug took their act against 5A Eagle Pass and came away the victor by 13 points. The Knights say there isn't a secret to their early season success, just playing solid basketball.

"We just play good team defense and we move the ball. Stay patient on offense and not turn the ball over. Rebound the ball and make our free throws and we'll be good."

"We don't really have a secret, we're just working a lot harder, playing good defense and being patient on offense and listening to our coach because he knows the right thing to do."

St. Aug is also being recognized at the state level being ranked 23rd for all the large private schools in Texas. The Knights will play in Hebbronville tournament this weekend before taking on Alexander on Tuesday.
